This song always encourages nostalgia and forced remembrance in me.  While the music video doesn’t quite portray the lyrics as well as I would like, the lyrics are like deja vu to me.  Fall in love with someone, can no longer have them, watch them throw away their life (to drugs [coke], especially), and not be able to do anything about it; so much wasted potential— a waste of my time...
